Arrow Engine & Compression

Arrow Engine Company manufactures natural gas powered engines, reciprocating gas compressors, generator sets, gas production and measurement equipment, and replacement parts from Tulsa, Oklahoma. Founded in 1955 as Arrow Specialty Company by Jeff Davis, it supplies the oil and gas industry along with other industrial markets internationally.

Previously part of TriMas Corporation, Arrow was acquired in January 2025 by IES Infrastructure, a NASDAQ-listed business (ticker IESC) headquartered in Massillon, Ohio.

Natural gas engines

Arrow engines are built for continuous duty, with a heavy flywheel, governor speed control and a pressurized full-flow lubrication system. Multicylinder models are four-stroke, high-speed, overhead-valve engines in four and six cylinder versions, used on pump jacks, material handling, water pumps and generator sets.

A-Series engines come with turbo or cross-flow intake and exhaust manifolds. The C-Series covers five models, in field use for more than 60 years.

KP-Series gaseous engines come in 3, 4 and 6 cylinder configurations, EPA certified for stationary, nonroad mobile and emergency standby duty, and run on pipeline or wellhead natural gas and propane. They use spark ignition, water cooling, J1939 CANbus communication, and either naturally aspirated or turbocharged and charge air-cooled induction. Single cylinder engines and irrigation pumping engines complete the range.

Reciprocating compressors

Arrow supplies new and used separable reciprocating gas compressors. The VRS-2 and VRC-2 share a three-throw crankshaft that eliminates cylinder offset and runs the cylinders in the same plane, which the company states reduces vibration.

The VRS-2 and VRS-4 both carry a combined rod load capability of 20,000 lbs. VRS-2 specifications include:

• 3 inch stroke
• Separable distance pieces and babbitted crossheads
• Double-acting and steeple cylinders from 2.25 to 10 inch diameter
• Variable volume clearance pockets
• Pressurized cylinder lubrication
• Hoerbiger valves
• Carbon-filled Teflon rings and packing

The VRC-2 is a two-throw separable unit with pressurized lubrication, and the VRU-1 and VRU-2 serve as vapor recovery units and small gas booster compressors.

Compressor packaging

The gas compressor products division assembles completely packaged units. Options include:

• Engine or electric motor drive
• Low BTU carburization
• Standard or critical grade silencers and catalytic converters
• Class I, Division 2, Group D capability
• Automatic bypass and suction makeup
• Air or gas starter system
• 12V or 24V electrical system
• Automatic cooler louvers
• Trailer mounting
• Meter systems and tubes for gas flow measurement

Gas products and fabrication

The Arrow Gas Products division was added in 2006 to fabricate process, production and measurement equipment: ASME code vessels, separators, coalescers, AGA gas measurement equipment, meter tubes, skid mounted meter runs and packaged measurement stations.

The Tulsa fabrication facility has 30,000 square feet of shop space and several acres of fenced storage yard, with sandblasting, painting and weld shop work. On-site tooling tests and inspects ASME code vessels and meter tubes to current AGA and API specs. The company states the division sits on multiple approval lists for gas measurement and production equipment.

Replacement parts and electronics

Arrow stocks replacement parts for a wide variety of engines and manufactures its own genuine parts line, plus engine electronics including the Arrow Autostart control.
