Hampel Oil Distributors, Inc. is a family-owned fuel, lubricant and chemical distributor incorporated in 1976. It was started by Al Hampel, who began his career with the Standard Oil Company in 1946 delivering fuel to businesses and contractors before becoming an independent Amoco distributor. The company now operates multiple locations across Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, Missouri, Arkansas and Pennsylvania.

Supply covers fuel, lubricants, diesel exhaust fluid, chemicals and the tanks and dispensing equipment that go with them. Named industry focuses are midstream and natural gas compression, served since 2003 according to the company, along with construction, mining, trucking, automotive and manufacturing accounts, and agriculture, which it describes as the sector the business grew out of.

Fuel supply and delivery

Transportation is handled in-house rather than through third-party carriers, which the company states lets it keep control from order through offloading. Tank wagon and transport deliveries are both offered on same-day or next-day schedules.

Cardlock fueling runs from seven Kansas locations, compatible with Pacific Pride and Comdata, with access to more than 1,300 automated Pacific Pride sites nationwide. PowerDiesel, the company's own fuel additive, has been delivered for close to 30 years. Hampel Oil is also a direct branded marketer for Phillips 66 100LL AvGas and Jet-A across the Midwest region, and operates as a common carrier of liquid petroleum products with an emphasis on aviation fuel.

Lubricants, DEF and oil filtration

Hampel Oil began as an Amoco products jobber and now supplies ExxonMobil lubricants in Kansas, states that it is a Chevron First Source Elite Supplier across its service area, and carries its own house lubricant brand.

Hampel DEF is stated to meet ISO and industry purity specifications, uses a formaldehyde-free formula, and is available for distribution at every company location. Hydraulic oil filtration and contamination control services are offered separately, aimed at particles the company cites as a leading cause of hydraulic system failure.

Chemical supply and field support

Chemical products are supplied for oil and gas, industrial and agricultural applications from bobtail and bulk inventory, with technical support covering product selection, laboratory analysis interpretation and troubleshooting. Product families include:

• Natural gas dehydration: TEG, inhibited TEG, specialty dehydration fluids, Dow PURDRY 100 and Dow DESITHERM HS
• Hydrate and freeze protection: methanol and monoethylene glycol
• Amines and gas treating: MDEA, MDEA/piperazine, DEA, MEA, TEA, amine blends, antifoams, pH boosters and triazine scavengers
• Cooling and heat transfer: engines and compressors, line heaters and GPUs, reboiler hot oil systems, HVAC, data centers and industrial cooling
• Solvents and degreasers: aromatic solvents, mineral spirits and Stoddard solvent
• Process chemicals: glycols, methanol, ethanol and IPA, drilling fluids, dust suppressants, glycerine, DI water, acids and caustics

Storage equipment and new plant fills are also handled.

Equipment and tank programs

A Customer Loaned Equipment (CLE) program places specialized equipment on customer sites, including lube vans, bulk lubricant storage systems, transport and tank wagon delivery solutions, and fuel and lubricant lab services. Tank programs cover fuel, lube, DEF and propane where available, and the company states all equipment meets EPA along with state and fire regulations.

Tanks are monitored through the SMARTank ST90 LTE cellular system, which reports tank level, tank location, inventory temperature, rate of consumption, and critical high and low alarms through an online portal. The KeepFull program pairs that monitoring with scheduled deliveries, and a separate Reliability Services Program targets equipment uptime and productivity.
